Tanegashima

Tanegashima is an island in Kagoshima prefecture. The name had another meaning in the 16th century. It meant match lock guns because the island was where the guns arrived from Europe. 

Japanese craftsmen were really skillful when match lock guns came to Japan. They tried to copy the guns and they made the copy within a year.
