A massive typhoon No.10 is traveling along the Japanese mainland and will across Tohoku region. The typhoon will cause a lot of rain. Be careful everyone.
As I work for fishery industry, I'll face lack of fish next week. The fish prices will soar in the markets. That's the way it is around this season.

Few Fish in the Market

I go to two fish markets every morning. There weren't many fish at the markets in this week. We call this phenomenon "Natsu-gare" in Japanese. Natsu means summer and gare means withered.
Usually, this phenomenon lasts until September. During the Natsu-gare season, fish prices are much hier than usual.
Once a typhoon come to around Japan, Natsu-gare will end.

Katsuo No Tataki

I made "katsuo no tataki" for dinner. It's a kind of binito's sashimi but the surfaces of the filet is burnt. That make binito's sashimi delicious.

The New Year Tuna Auction

Today is the first day fish market auctions open all over Japan this year. Tsukuji market in Tokyo also held its first tuna auction today.
Last year, the highest price for a tuna was five hundred fifty million yen, 1億5千万円! But the bubble of the New Year's tuna collapsed dramatically this year. It cost about seven million yen, 700万円. Of course the price was much higher than usual. I think the fisherman who caught the tuna felt really disappointed.

How to buy fish at fish markets

I’ll tell you about the auctions at local fish markets.
Only people who has the rights to buy at the fish market can take part in the fish auction. Fifty to 100 buyers from places like local fish shops or super markets come to buy fish at the markets every morning.
When you find some fish worth buying, you have to show the price you decided to the auctioneer with the secret hand sign and the person who offers the highest price can buy the fish.
